What the end of support means
Since the end of community support, no more free updates have been provided for TYPO3 12. The website is not switched off as a result. Without additional coverage via ELTS, however, the TYPO3 core no longer receives any official security fixes. Version overview for TYPO3 12
A complete relaunch is therefore not automatically necessary. First, it should be clarified how the installation can continue to be maintained. Ongoing technical support remains important – regardless of which path is chosen.
Upgrade to a supported TYPO3 version
An upgrade brings the website to a major version with regular support. We check which version is suitable for this based on the extensions used, custom functions and the technical environment.
The effort depends, among other things, on which adjustments to the code are necessary and whether the extensions are available in suitable versions. A new design is not automatically linked to a technical upgrade.
Continuing to operate TYPO3 12 with ELTS
Via the paid ELTS programme, TYPO3 12 continues to receive security and compatibility updates for the core. This can make sense if an upgrade needs more preparation or a larger rebuild is already planned for a later date. Information on ELTS
ELTS thus enables planned continued operation. The updates provided must still be checked and installed. Extensions and server environment also need maintenance independently of this.
When deciding, the ELTS costs, the ongoing support effort and the schedule for further development should be considered together.
Which solution suits your website?
A technical assessment creates the basis for the decision. We check:
- Which extensions and custom functions are needed?
- Are suitable versions available for an upgrade?
- Which adjustments to PHP, database or server environment are required?
- Which larger changes are planned for the website anyway?
This also makes it possible to clarify whether extensions that are no longer needed can be dropped. We can then estimate the effort for a TYPO3 upgrade and compare it with continued operation under ELTS.
