A new technical basis for website and project exchange.
For VARIUS IT, we took over the existing website into our hosting environment and rebuilt it on TYPO3 13. Content, page structure and essential paths for users were retained. We renewed the technical foundations and the connection to the specialist system for projects and job offers.
A proven website on an outdated foundation.
VARIUS IT places IT experts in projects and fills interim mandates. The website is aimed at three different groups: companies, freelance consultants and people looking for permanent employment.
A central component is the project and job exchange. The offers displayed there come from an external specialist system and are output automatically on the website.
At the time of the takeover, the website ran on TYPO3 7 and no longer received regular security updates. The existing extensions and technical structures would have had to be extensively revised for the switch to a newer version.
Reprogram, retain what works.
We decided on a technical rebuild on TYPO3 13. The existing content, images and page structures were carried over; templates, content elements and the connection to the specialist system were reimplemented.
This retained the familiar user guidance while we renewed the technical foundation. A complete redesign was not necessary for this.

New technology behind familiar content.
For the general website content, we set up reusable building blocks with Content Blocks. The editorial team can edit texts and images and put together new pages from the intended elements.
The display of the building blocks is defined. This keeps spacing, typography and adaptation to different screen sizes consistent without the editorial team having to edit the templates.
Offers directly from the specialist system.
Projects and job offers continue to be maintained in the VARIUS IT specialist system. The website queries the required information directly there; additional editorial maintenance of the offers in TYPO3 is no longer necessary.
Changes in the specialist system are taken into account for the website at the next successful retrieval. This keeps the management of the offers in one central place.
For the rebuild, we redeveloped the connection and integrated it into the German and English presentation.
Provide fonts and scripts locally.
During the rebuild, we checked the external integrations and integrated fonts, scripts and other components locally. For these resources, the browser does not have to establish any additional connections to external providers.
Tracking services are not used in the state described. The connection to the specialist system for projects and job offers is not affected by this.
Check changes and publish them traceably.
The project is managed via Composer and fully versioned. We first develop and test changes in a separate test environment before they are published.
In our hosting environment, we have direct access to the systems required for maintenance and troubleshooting. This makes it easier to coordinate and implement technical changes and to prepare later version changes.
